Montclair History Resources

Step back in time – visit the Montclair History Center's four historic houses: the Crane House and Historic YWCA (110 Orange Road), the Nathaniel Crane House (110 Orange Road), and the Clark House (108 Orange Road.  The Center offers a variety of tours and other historic programs. The Montclair Public Library is home to extensive collections of materials on the history of our Township. If you wish to view local history files, the Library recommends email: [email protected].

The Library's Local History Room has a collection of archived materials related to Montclair, including Biography Files and Subject Files. The Library also has issues of The Montclair Times on microfilm dating back to 1877, city directories and high school yearbooks.

The Library also offers more than 13,000 digital images on Montclair History Online, and a selection of NICHE videos available for viewing on YouTube.

Also visit the Montclair’s Historic Preservation Commission’s interactive map of Montclair Township’s Historic Inventory. The map shows Montclair's historic resources identified in the Historic Preservation Element of the Township Master Plan (adopted May 1993). It also shows properties that have been designated as local landmarks and local landmark districts.
