Pet Adoption and Fostering

As we continue to monitor the evolving situation with COVID-19, difficult decisions are being made to minimize the spread of the disease.

Effective now and until further notice, the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS) will follow recommendations for social distancing by closing our doors to the public to ensure our staff remains healthy so they can attend to the needs of our animals.

Our animals are awaiting loving homes and MTAS adoptable animals can be viewed on Petfinder.com or on the shelter’s Facebook page.

Adoption applications should be submitted electronically (see left-hand menu of this page for links to online applications).

Adoptions will be done by appointment only. Potential adopters who are interested in one of our animals, have submitted an application and have been pre-screened will be contacted to make an appointment for a meet and greet. MTAS asks that any potential visitor who is showing signs of illness or not feeling well, to take care and stay home until they are feeling better for a shelter visit. We are asking the same of our staff and volunteers.

MTAS encourages pet owners to be proactive and have a plan in place for their pet(s) in the event the owner becomes ill and requires medical attention.

Make sure all pets are wearing proper identification, have crates and extra food or supplies on hand and have a trustworthy friend or family member on standby to take care of their pet(s) should they become ill or hospitalized. MTAS has plans in place to ensure the animals in our care are cared for in the event of an emergency.

Thank you for your continued support during this time. You may contact us at [email protected] or (973)744-8600 if you have any questions or concerns.

As always, Animal Control Officers are available 24/7 by calling the Montclair Police Department non-emergency number (973)744-1234.
