Tax Collection/Water/Sewer

From the Township Finance Department:

The Montclair tax and utilities payment office sees dozens of property owners come in every day to pay their bills.

  • CHECK PAYMENTS may be dropped off into the box located outside, at the front of the building, next to the US Postal Service mailbox.
  • All checks must be in an envelope clearly noting to which department they should go, or what services are being paid for (Clerk's office applications, building department, water/sewer bill, etc.)
  • If you need confirmation of receipt of payment, please call the appropriate department for confirmation but please wait two weeks for processing payment.
  • CASH PAYMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Tax Payment Due Dates and Grace Periods

Tax payments are due four times a year: February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. Tax payments have a 10-day grace period -- on the 11th day of each quarter tax payments are subject to interest.

The interest on late payments for taxes is calculated at a rate of 8% on the first $1500.00 and 18% for any amount over $1500.00, retroactive to the first of the month.

If you have any questions about tax payments, please call the Tax Department at 973-509-4923, 4922, 4921.
