The Montclair Police Department Uniform and Traffic Bureau, which comprises the Uniform Division Office and the Traffic Unit, offers a variety of essential services to the Township of Montclair. The Traffic Unit reviews all motor vehicle accident reports within the township, and oversees the duties of all School Crossing Guards, and Parking Enforcement Personnel.

The Uniform Division Office is responsible for allocating uniform personnel to ensure adequate Police coverage. Other functions include the scheduling of vacations, sick time, shift assignments, training, special events, and off duty jobs.

The Traffic Unit is concerned with the roadway safety of Montclair citizens. Analysis of traffic patterns and traffic accidents helps determine where the police department must use greater enforcement, and establishes where traffic signalization is needed.

The Traffic Unit administers the following programs, funded in part by state grants:

• Aggressive Driving
• Driving While Intoxicated
• Make It Click (seat belt program)
• Cops In Shops

The Traffic Unit also re-certifies Montclair Police Department personnel as radar operators, and processes all dumpster permit applications. Dumpster permit applications are available on-line.
