For most small household appliances:

For most household appliances ("white goods"), residents can simply call the Department of Community Services (DCS) at (973) 509-5711. They will make an appointment with you for curbside collection. On the evening before that date you bring the appliance to the curb, and it will be collected as scheduled.

Household Appliances (sticker required):

This category includes appliances containing refrigerants: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.

Residents must first purchase a sticker for $10 either at the Department of Community Services (219 No. Fullerton Avenue), weekdays between 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. When you purchase the sticker, DCS staff will set your collection appointment with you. DCS is required to have the refrigerants removed by a state-certified technician, which costs $20, so they must charge $10 to the resident disposing of the appliance. Upon returning home, simply place the sticker on the appliance, bring it to the curb on the evening before your scheduled date, and it will be collected as scheduled.
