We honor the Montclair Police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
Alfred L. Sellick, Jr.
End of Watch: Monday, January 12, 1976
Sergeant Alfred L. Sellick, Jr. was shot and killed during a bank robbery.
He was shot in the face at about 7:15 p.m. at the First Federal Savings and Loan Association while trying to disarm the gunman. He later died in the emergency room at Mountainside Hospital.
Within three days the gunman and three accomplices were arrested. The gunman was convicted of murder and armed robbery and sentenced to life on June 30, 1976. He was paroled on May 26, 1994. The other three were also convicted of murder and armed robbery and sentenced to life. All three have been paroled.
Sergeant Sellick's killer and his three accomplices were members of the New World of Islam, a black muslim religious group responsible for more than 100 robberies and several murders in New Jersey.
Sergeant Sellick was a 25-year veteran of the Montclair Police Department.

Raymond T. Bustard
End of Watch: Friday, September 29, 1972
Patrolman Raymond Bustard was struck and killed by an automobile while on a traffic post directing traffic at the intersection of Lorraine Avenue and Valley Road in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
Patrolman Bustard had motioned to a car heading East on Lorraine Ave through the intersection, when another car which was heading South on Valley Road allegedly disregarded Patrolman Bustard's hand signal to stop, and struck the first vehicle in the left rear spinning it around. The spinning vehicle struck Patrolman Bustard with its right rear and slammed him into the wall of a building at the southeast corner of the intersection. Patrolman Bustard was transported to Mountainside Hospital by the Montclair Volunteer Ambulance Unit. He was pronounced dead at 8:27 A.M. of multiple head injuries.
Patrolman Bustard had served with the Montclair Police Department for 23 years and had served with the United States Army in World War II. He was survived by his wife, son, two step-sons, two step-daughters, and two sisters.
