How old are you? 93
Where were you born? Boston, MA
When did you move to Montclair? 1967
Why did you move to Montclair? Our lease in NYC was ending and with 2.7 kids we started the search. We ruled out Long Island because of the commute and Westchester as too pricey so we began looking here. As a bachelor I had visited a classmate here frequently and liked the look, the easy commute to NYC and what I had heard about the good school system. (Our three kids graduated Montclair High School.)
If you had a career, what was it? President of Greyhound Temporary Personnel then a division of the Greyhound Corporation followed by twenty years as a merger and acquisition consultant in the temporary service industry.
How have you been engaged in the community? Treasurer and trustee for West Essex Rehabilitation Center, Home Corp., United Way, Red Cross, Montclair Counseling Center, Adult School, Montclair Non Profit Roundtable, Senior Care, ad hoc study of area ambulance units for Partners in Philanthropy and Green Hill in West Orange. Treasurer for several candidates for the township council.
What are some of the most important lessons you feel you have learned throughout your life? Follow your instincts, in any controversy try to sit in the other person's seat, and always tell the truth - you'll have less to remember.
What is your mantra or words you live by? Keep your brain out of neutral, exercise, and enjoy your bucket list while you can.
What are your plans for future? How does Montclair fit into these plans? I no longer go to meetings. My plans for the future always dovetail with those of my wife. She and I intend to live here ad infinitum. We try to walk a mile a day. We share a couple of hobbies growing orchids, cacti and succulents. Separately Renee knits sweaters non-stop while I try to paint a picture a month. We keep abreast of town activities reading the Local and by attending Bill Hurlock's quarterly meetings and presenting a Welcome to Montclair booklet to new neighbors and most importantly, we patronize the local restaurants frequently.
