Bill Hurlock, born and raised in New Jersey, has been a resident of Montclair for 23 years.
Bill is the managing partner in the law firm of Mueller Law with offices nationwide, including Montclair. He was named to the New Jersey Super Lawyers - a distinction reserved for 5% of practicing attorneys in the State. He was also selected to the Lawyers of Distinction, an honor bestowed upon the top 10% of lawyers involved in civil litigation. Bill has been featured in The American Lawyer magazine and the Corporate Crime Reporter. He is admitted to practice in the courts of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
Bill served as a lead attorney in many healthcare cases that resulted in excess of $650 million recovered on behalf of U.S. taxpayers. Bill also served as an adjunct professor teaching Healthcare Law and Legal Research and Writing at Seton Hall University School of Law.
While in Washington, D.C., Bill was a federal prosecutor for the Office of Independent Counsel investigating allegations of corruption at the highest levels of the federal government. Before becoming an attorney, he served on the staff of two Offices of Independent Counsel and worked for a United States Congressman and a Member of Parliament in the British House of Commons.
Bill earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Justice from American University and the University of London, where he attained Dean’s List. He graduated from American University, Washington College of Law, receiving his Juris doctorate with honors.
He is proud of the fact that his daughter is a graduate of, and his son attends, Montclair’s public school system. Bill has been very active in the Montclair School District and he volunteers to support the many events and fundraisers held for the schools. He has presented Goldilocks v. The Three Bears, a mock trial for elementary school children where they learn firsthand how the court system works.
Bill served in various capacities in town. He was appointed to the town’s capital finance committee, where he served for four years. He coached numerous teams in the Montclair tee-ball and youth soccer leagues and the Northeast School geography bee. Bill is also a member of several local and community boards. He currently serves on the boards of the Northern New Jersey Red Cross, the Family Service League and the National Youth Recovery Foundation. He served on the board of trustees for Outpost in the Burbs, the board of directors of the Montclair YMCA, vice chair for the Newark Presbytery and on the advisory committee for the Federal Enforcement Homeland Security Foundation. The congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair (PCUM) elected Bill to serve as an elder and Presbytery commissioner.
