Montclair Police Department Police Blotter March 23, 2021 – March 30, 2021
Thefts
March 23, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): The complainant reported that he placed his briefcase down on the ground while waiting for a taxi. He momentarily left it unattended and when he returned the briefcase was gone. It reportedly contained a phone charger and several checkbooks.
March 25, 2021 (Jerome Place): The complainant reported that her 2009 Honda CRV was stolen from the driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with a spare key inside.
March 25, 2021 (Jerome Place): The resident reported that her unlocked vehicle was rummaged through during the overnight hours. The only thing reported missing was approximately $1.00 in loose change.
March 25, 2021 (Gates Avenue): The victim reported that he observed an unknown person inside of his car with a flashlight. When they yelled to him the male reportedly said, “Sorry. I thought it was my car” and fled to an awaiting vehicle. The suspect was described as a black male wearing dark clothing. The suspect vehicle was a dark colored Chevy Malibu which fled west on Gates Avenue and then north on Harrison Avenue.
Burglary / Vandalism
March 27, 2021 (Bellevue Avenue): Officers responded to the former Bellevue Theater on a report of a burglary and vandalism that occurred sometime in the past month. The owners of the building stated that they were checking on the property and discovered that an unknown person(s) managed to make entry into the building. Once inside, they observed graffiti throughout the theater, most of which was unreadable. The complainant estimated the damages to be approximately $10,000.
