Police Blotter April 27, 2021 – May 3, 2021
Theft from Motor Vehicle
April 28, 2021 (Hartley Street): The complainant reported his unlocked vehicle was entered while parked on Hartley Street. A laptop and wallet containing cash and credit cards were removed.
April 29, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered and a bag containing an iPad and birth certificates were stolen. Surveillance video from the area show the suspects to be two black males approximately 16-18 years old, both with thin builds. One suspect was wearing a black hoodie with a “TuPac” picture on the front of it, dark colored jogger sweatpants and light sneakers. The second suspect was wearing a black hoodie, light colored jogger sweatpants, a pair of Air Jordans 4's sneakers, and a blue colored backpack.
April 30, 2021 (Forest Street): The resident reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. Approximately $5.00 in loose change was taken along with his wallet containing credit cards. Approximately six unauthorized charges were made against his credit/debit cards in Newark. While gathering information for the report, a second individual approached the officer to report his vehicle was also entered. Approximately $10.00 in loose change was taken from the second vehicle.
April 30, 2021 (Walnut Street): The complainant reported that two male suspects removed the Catalytic Converter to a 2004 Honda Element. The resident reported that at approximately 2:00 AM he heard what he described as a power tool being used in his driveway. Upon investigating the sound, he observed two black males standing next to his vehicle. Both were said to be approximately 6 feet in height. One male was wearing a red shirt and the other was wearing a white hat. When the victim yelled out to them, the males ran north down the driveway, towards Walnut Street.
May 1, 2021 (High Street): The complainant reported her vehicle was entered and rummaged through during the overnight hours. A wallet containing credit/debit cards was stolen.
Stolen Motor Vehicles
April 30, 2021 (Nishuane Road): An officer located a 1999 Ford F35 Pickup truck reported stolen from Newark, NJ parked unoccupied on Nishuane Road. The vehicle was impounded and the owner was notified of its recovery.
May 1, 2021 (High Street): The resident reported her 2006 Suzuki stolen between 4:00 PM April 30, 2021 and 5:45 PM May 1, 2021. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked.
Shots Fired
April 30, 2021 (Mission Street): At approximately 10:36 PM, Montclair Police received an anonymous call of a possible shooting that occurred on Mission Street, one hour in the past. The caller reported hearing a possible gun shot and then observing a male victim bleeding from the leg enter a red vehicle and leave the area. Upon arrival of patrol to Mission Street, no victims, witnesses, or spent shell casings were located. While investigating the scene, East Orange General Hospital contacted Montclair Police Dispatch advising that a victim of a gunshot wound entered their Emergency Room and the incident reportedly occurred in Montclair. Investigators responded and interviewed the victim, a 31-year-old Montclair resident, who was being treated for a single gunshot wound to the right thigh. The actual location of the shooting is still undetermined at this time. This is an active and on-going investigation. Arrests
April 29, 2021 (Park Street): David Blakely (31 years old, Montclair) was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer following a disturbance call on Park Street in the area of the North Fullerton Parking Deck.
