The Township of Montclair requires that all cat owners license their cats annually through the township Health Department.
You can think of your pet’s license as a way to ensure a free ride home in case it is lost. The license tag can be quickly used to find your name and address, and the authorities can notify you.
Licensing is also a way for the community to ensure that pets are vaccinated against rabies, a terrible disease that is fatal to dogs and cats.
The fees from licensing stay in the community and help fund rabies clinics and support our animal control efforts.
If you have previously licensed your cat, the license expires August 31 of each year. Renewal forms are sent out mid-August.

The fee for spayed/neutered cats is $8 per cat, and the fee for cats that are not spayed or neutered is $11 per cat. Residents age 65+ pay $5 per spayed/neutered cat and $11 per intact cat. All cat owners must also include a certificate of rabies vaccination expiring on or after July 1, 2022.
Late fees apply for cats licensed after November 1. Should you fail to properly license your pet, you may be subject to a summons carrying fines. The cost of the license is far less than the fine imposed if your dog or cat is found without a license.
