Police Blotter: December 7, 2021 – December 14, 2021
Thefts
December 7, 2021 (Church Street): Representatives from Cub Scout Pack 12, who sell Christmas Tress in a parking lot on Church Street, reported that twenty-three trees were missing and not accounted as sold. They were last seen on November 28, 2021. The trees were valued at between $75.00 and $95.00 each.
December 7, 2021 (Haddon Place): The homeowner reported that his home surveillance system captured an individual entering his vehicle at 2:30 AM. The vehicle was rummaged through however nothing was reported missing at this time.
December 9, 2021 (New Street): The resident reported that a package that had been delivered to her residence was stolen. Home surveillance video shows a black male, wearing dark colored baseball cap, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and light-colored jeans, exit a dark colored vehicle. The male then takes the package, returns to his car, and flees north on New Street.
December 13, 2021 (Hawthorne Place): The resident reported that he ordered an iPad mini and when it was delivered, the box was empty. Upon inspecting the box, it appeared as though the seals on the box were cut.
Recovered Stolen Vehicles
December 7, 2021 (Grove Street): A 2021 Black Jeep Compass that had been stolen from a driveway on Grove Street December 5, 2021 was recovered in Newark. The vehicle had been involved in a shooting in Newark and recovered unoccupied.
December 7, 2021 (Macopin Avenue): A 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan that was stolen on November 22, 2021 was recovered unoccupied at Branch Court and Allen Lane in Newark.
December 10, 2021 (Mount Vernon Road): A 2021 Ford Explorer stolen from a Mount Vernon Road residence was recovered on Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.
Burglary Attempt
December 13, 2021 (Mission Street): The resident reported that while at work, he was alerted by his juvenile son that someone was repeatedly ringing the doorbell and then began kicking the door. The suspect(s) were not able to make entry successfully. The door frame sustained damage by the dead bolt lock.
Arrests
December 9, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to the Exxon Gas Station on a report of an individual threatening a worker with a knife. Patrol arrived and located Mr. Van Ray (49 years old, Montclair) following the employee, who was retreating. Officers located an orange handled razor blade in Ray’s possession. Ray was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Aggravated Assault.
December 9, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): Carole Duffy (57 years old Carlsbad, CA) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after striking a marked patrol car at the intersection of North Fullerton Avenue and Walnut Street.
