Police Blotter: June 14, 2022 – June 21, 2022
Motor Vehicle Crime
June 15, 2022 (Park Street): The resident reported that his 2022 grey Audi Q5 was stolen during the overnight hours. The owner stated that he believes he left the keys in the center console by accident.
June 17, 2022 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered while parked at the North Fullerton Parking Deck. A black purse containing $50.00, a cellphone, and numerous credit cards were stolen.
June 19, 2022 (North Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that his 2020 Volvo XC90 was stolen from the driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, in Newark shortly thereafter. While on scene investigating, it was discovered that a second vehicle, also parked in the driveway, was entered and rummaged through. Nothing appears to have been stolen.
June 19, 2022 (Warren Place): The complainant reported that two vehicles that were parked on Warren Place were entered. A purse containing $100.00 in cash, credit cards, sunglasses, and a Kindle, were reported stolen.
June 19, 2022 (High Street): The owner of a 2010 Audi Q5 reported that his vehicle was stolen while he was attending church services at Trinity Church. The vehicle was located abandoned on June 21, 2022 in Hillside, NJ.
June 20, 2022 (College Avenue): The resident reported that he woke up at approximately 4:00 AM and observed his Audi Q7 reversing out of his driveway. The vehicle fled south on College Avenue and then east on Mount Hebron Road. It was being followed by a second, unknown vehicle. Responding officers observed the Audi fleeing at a high rate of speed south on North Fullerton Avenue with a white Range Rover following it. The Range Rover was determined to be a stolen vehicle from Livingston, NJ. The officers terminated their pursuit at Elm Street and Llewellyn Road with the suspect vehicles continuing south. The Audi was recovered two hours later, abandoned in Belleville, NJ.
Suspicious Person
June 15, 2022 (Orange Road): Staff members at Montclair Pre-K reported that on three different occasions, they observed a suspicious male near the fence of the school taking photographs of the children. He was described as a white male, approximately 6’00” tall, with a red shirt over his head. On another occasion he was said to have a bald head and mustache. He was also said to be walking a small dog. In each incident, the suspect fled the area after being confronted by staff.
Theft
June 15, 2022 (Valley Road): The manager at Montclair Diner reported that he observed the lock to the grease tank in the rear of the business had been cut. Surveillance video shows a white Ford work van pull into the parking lot at approximately 2:06 AM and back up to the oil container. The occupants of the van then exit the vehicle and cut the lock with a tool that they retrieved from the van. They then pump the contents of the container into another container which is located in the van. At 2:15 AM, they reenter the van and proceed to leave the parking lot. One of the suspects can be observed wearing blue jeans and a blue sweatshirt. Other identifiers remain unclear from the video footage.
June 16, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at Whole Foods Market reported that an unknown male entered the store at 7:58 AM, filled a hand basket with food, and left the store without paying. He was described as black male, dark complexion, thin build, beard, orange short style hair, approximately 6'0", last seen wearing a dark blazer, light grey sweatshirt, dark shirt, blue jeans, and black and white sneakers.
Disturbance
June 16, 2022 (South Park Street): An employee at Verizon reported that three males entered the store and requested assistance in adding a new phone line to their plan. One of the customers wanted to purchase an iPhone11 in full, without financing it. When the customer was told that the store could not accommodate that request, the customers became irate, began cursing, and knocking over store merchandise and existing customers cellphones onto the floor. The only description provided was three black males.
June 17, 2022 (Christopher Street): Several residents of Christopher Street called police reporting a large house party on the block. Officers cleared the area as the party was small in nature. At approximately 10:19 PM, officers responded back to the area as the crowd on the street had grown to approximately 200-300 people. Mutual Aid assistance was provided by Bloomfield Police, Glen Ridge Police, Cedar Grove Police, Verona Police, Nutley Police, Essex County Sheriffs Department, and the New Jersey State Police to help clear the area. After some time, officers were able to disperse all individuals in the immediate area. There were no arrests made or citations issued as it appears the large crowd that arrived later were not known to the homeowners.
