Police Blotter: November 22, 2022 – November 29, 2022
Theft
November 23, 2022 (Church Street): An employee of ‘Wow Sports Cards’ reported that four juveniles entered his store and stole approximately $700.00 worth of merchandise. Two juveniles reportedly distracted the cashier while the remaining two walked out with the items. The first juvenile was described as a white male wearing glasses, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, a dark colored backpack, dark colored shorts and dark colored shoes. The second juvenile was described as a white male wearing glasses, a dark colored sweatshirt, long dark pants and a gray backpack.
Motor Vehicle Crime
November 24, 2022 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reported that his unlocked vehicle was parked behind a business on Glenridge Avenue. An unknown person entered the passenger side door and was able to steal $600.00 in cash. The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras and is described as a black male, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, dark colored pants, and dark sneakers. The suspect was also carrying what appeared to be a gym bag.
November 24, 2022 (Beverley Road): The complainant reported that he started his 2022 Mercedes Benz and then entered a residence on Beverley Road to gather personal items. When he returned a minute later the vehicle was gone. It was recovered later in the evening in Newark, NJ.
November 26, 2022 (Elm Street): A 2009 Audi was stolen while left running unattended on Elm Street.
November 27, 2022 (Marion Road): A 2020 BMW X5 was stolen from a Marion Road driveway. The key fob was reportedly left in the vehicle. Shortly after reporting the theft, the vehicle was recovered in Newark, NJ.
Burglary / Suspicious Person
November 24, 2022: During the late evening hours on Thanksgiving, Montclair Police responded to multiple residences throughout the township on reports of a suspicious male trespassing on the resident’s property. In some cases, the suspect was able to make entry into the home.
The first incident occurred at approximately 7:10 PM when a Stonebridge Road resident reported hearing someone walking around her first floor while she was upstairs. One of the occupants in the home observed an individual run from the property. He was wearing dark clothing and was approximately 5’10” tall. Nothing was reported missing.
At approximately 8:45 PM a resident on Inwood Terrace reported observing someone removing the flower pots by his kitchen window ledge in an attempt to open the window. The suspect ran when he was discovered by the homeowner’s son.
At 9:45 PM, a resident on Highland Avenue reported observing an unknown person on his property about to enter his side door. The suspect was described as a light skinned male, average build, about 5'11, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, and a black ski mask covering his face. The suspect ran after being confronted by the resident.
A resident on Prospect Place alerted police about an hour later that his home surveillance captured the same male running across his property. The next morning, a second caller from Prospect Place reported his wallet missing from his kitchen counter.
Shortly after midnight, a complainant on Upper Mountain Avenue observed a male matching this same description trespassing on the property. He fled when confronted.
The male with the same description was observed attempting to gain entry into a North Mountain Avenue address one hour later. Her fled when confronted by the resident.
