Where were you born? Weehawken, NJ

When did you move to Montclair? 1964

Why did you move to Montclair? I was newly married, and it was convenient for my job in White Plains and my husband’s in Newark. We rented a 3rd floor apartment on Walnut Street for $95 per month.

Are you currently employed? If so, doing what? If you had a career, what was it? I worked as a recruiter and speaker for Berkeley Secretarial School in East Orange and White Plains. I have a BA and MA from NYU. I have been working full time as a Realtor since 1975, now at RE/MAX Village Square. I had my own office for 5 years – Montclair Realty.

How have you been engaged in the community? I’m on the board of the Northern New Jersey Victorian Society, having been a cofounder of the group in 1975. I’m also on the board of South End Gardens; chair of the Friends of Barnet (we are a sister city with Barnet, England) conducting student and adult exchange programs; member/past president of the Montclair Lions Club; member/past president of the AAUW, Montclair College Club; past class president of Douglass College Alumnae class of 1954; charter member of UNICO in Montclair; past president of the Montclair Chamber of Commerce; member/past president of Le Tip of West Essex (business networking group); past president of CRS of NJ (Realtor group); board member of West Essex Board of Realtors; past member of the Montclair Planning Board and Board of Adjustment; past League of Women Voters board member; past member of YWCA; College Club book sale volunteer.

What are some of the most important lessons you feel you have learned throughout your life? Speak up for ideas you have and get involved. You can make a difference!

What is your mantra or words you live by? I always use my grandmother’s words: “if you don’t use your head you have to use your feet.” Mistakes happen, so fix them.

What are your plans for future? How does Montclair fit into these plans? I plan to continue working. I like my job and plan to stay here.
