Montclair Farmers’ Market Opens 25th Season

The Montclair Farmers’ Market kicked off its twenty-fifth season on June 3rd. The market is open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Walnut Street Train Station parking lot. The weekly market runs all summer and through the fall until Thanksgiving.

All five of our familiar farmers – Tree-Licious Orchards, Sunden Farms, Vacchiano’s, Matarazzo’s, and Farmer John (the organic grower) – are back this season with fresh produce, often picked within the previous 24 hours.

The market also boasts 15 delicious food artisans, including a local baker, a cheese maker, a seafood fishmonger, a beekeeper with honey (and wax candles), a specialty condiments purveyor, a pesto maker, a Garden State wine vintner, and a pickler.

This market has been a popular and sustainable asset for our town for a quarter of a century. Montclair was one of the very first towns in the Garden State to host a farmers’ market back in 1993; since then the health, economic, and environmental benefits of farmers’ markets have enticed towns and cities to follow our lead, which means that access to locally-grown foods has spread around the state and across the country. "We were local before there was local."

Two Hearts Beating As One
The Board of Trustees of the Montclair Farmers’ Markets are proud to continue their relationship with the Partners for Health Foundation (a regional health and wellness organization), and City Green (a local nonprofit group working to improve access to fresh foods in underserved communities), which enables the MFM to give all SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), and Seniors’ Farmers Market Nutrition Program participants “Double Value” for their dollars.

This means that when a participant spends $10 of their SNAP, WIC, or Seniors vouchers, they are able to buy $20 worth of fresh, locally-grown produce and other healthy foods at the Montclair Farmers’ Markets. This brings affordability and access to our friends and neighbors who are on tighter food budgets.

Close To You
Montclair’s Farmers’ Market is a popular meeting place for thousands of residents, visitors, families and friends who enjoy not only the healthy, tasty food, but also a tangible sense of community due to the presence of the growers, chef-prepared food tastings, non-profit information and display tables, and musical entertainment.
