Police Blotter January 5, 2021 – January 12, 2021

MV Theft

January 5, 2021 (Grove Street): An employee of Deron School reported a 2001 green Ford Econoline van stolen from the school property overnight. Surveillance shows an unknown person take the van at approximately 11:15 PM and travel northbound on Grove Street.

January 6, 2021 (Orchard Court): The resident reported that his 2013 Acura MDX was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was unlocked with the valet key contained within. The vehicle was recovered the next day, parked and unoccupied, in Newark.

Burglary

January 5, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): The residents reported that their apartment was entered between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM while they were out. Entry appeared to have been gained through a kitchen window. Once inside the suspect(s) ransacked the apartment and stole numerous electronic items.

Aggravated Assault

January 8, 2021 (Mission Street): At 1:24 AM Patrol units responded to Mission Street on a report of two females engaged in a physical dispute in the street. One female party reported that while inside of her residence she observed an unknown female damaging her cousin’s vehicle which was parked on the street. Damage consisted of a shattered front and rear windshield.

When she confronted the suspect, the suspect attacked her with a metal pipe. Ms. Jannah Asante (24-year-old female, East Orange, NJ) was arrested on scene. During arrest, Asante assaulted two officers by kicking one and spitting in the face of the other. Asante was charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. The victim was transported to Mountainside Hospital for injuries to her face.

Shots Fired

January 8, 2021 (Mission Street): At 5:21 PM, Montclair Police responded to Mission Street on a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival of Officers, three spent shell casings were located in the street however no victims were located and no witnesses came forward. At the time of the incident, no damage was observed to any vehicles in the area or residences. The incident remains under investigation. Theft

January 9, 2021 (Lincoln Street): The victim reported her wallet was stolen from her vehicle. The wallet was described as a bi-fold wallet containing approximately $140.00 in cash.

Criminal Mischief

January 10, 2021 (Chestnut Street): An officer reported observing fresh graffiti on the Chestnut Street train trestle. The graffiti consisted of various phrases in blue spray paint.
