Burglary / Attempted Burglary
September 14, 2022 (South Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that at some point overnight, an unknown person(s) entered his garage and stole two dirt bikes. One of the bikes was described as a black and white colored 2001 Yamaha Bondie valued at $11,000. The other ATV is a white colored 2020 CRF25R valued at $6,000.
September 17, 2022 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that she was awoken by several phone calls from her wife who was away alerting her of individuals on their property seen through surveillance video. The video shows four suspects approach the side door of the residence on the north side of the home. One suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt, with an Adidas logo, opened the screen door. It appeared as though the suspects noticed a camera, at which time all suspects fled west on the driveway. Entry was not successful.
September 19, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to Kai Yang Restaurant for a report of a burglary which occurred in the past. The owner reported that on Sunday morning (09/18/2022), at approximately 2:08 A.M., she received an alert on her phone from ADT security. The owner stated that she did not see anything on her phone to cause alarm. Upon her arrival at work on Monday, she discovered that the restaurant was broken into through the rear door, which was left unlocked. Approximately fifty dollars was stolen from the cash register.
Motor Vehicle Crime
September 14, 2022 (Elm Street): An officer on patrol in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Elm Street observed a white Infiniti Q70 parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was a reported stolen vehicle out of Passaic, New Jersey. The vehicle was impounded and returned to its owner.
Assault
September 14, 2022 (Trinity Place): Officers responded to the parking lot of the Salvation Army on a report of an assault that occurred. They located the victim, a 53-year-old male from Newark, suffering from lacerations to his face. The victim reported that he was using a ‘porta- potty’ and when he exited, he was attacked by two unknown males. One suspect was described as tall and stocky wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt. The other suspect was only described as shorter. He was treated by Montclair EMS and transported to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center.
September 19, 2022 (Lackawanna Plaza): The victim reported that he was involved in an argument with a co-worker when he was physically attacked. The victim reported that he was punched in the forehead causing a laceration to his head. He was treated by Glen Ridge EMS and transported to Mountainside Hospital.
