Police Blotter: November 9, 2021 – November 16, 2021

Burglary / Theft

November 10, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that she observed an unknown male inside of a Bloomfield Avenue Office building that contains numerous individual suites. When confronted, the male asked where the bathroom was located and inquired if someone named “Lucy” was working. When the male left the premises, the complainant observed a locked combination safe had been tampered with. The suspect was described as a light skinned black or Hispanic male, wearing a black face mask, black NY Yankees straight brim baseball cap (sticker still attached to the brim), a maroon and black Deadpool jacket with the Deadpool logo on the left side chest, dark colored pants, and tan work boots.

November 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The resident reported that a package containing approximately $130.00 worth of beauty products that had been delivered to her building was stolen. There was no suspect description.

November 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that when he arrived at work at 8:30 AM he discovered a damaged open door and damaged door lock. Entry into the office appeared to have been made but nothing was reported missing at this time.

November 12, 2021 (Union Street): The resident reported that his 2022 BMW X5 that had just been delivered to his home was stolen from his driveway. The vehicle was parked in the driveway with another vehicle parked behind it. The suspects drove over the lawn to exit and were last seen by a neighbor travelling east on Union Street.

Arrest

November 10, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ronald Henry (50 years old, Newark, NJ) was charged with Shoplifting after employees at CVS Pharmacy observed him remove body wash and lotions from the store without making payment.

Fire

On Friday November 12, 2021 at 2:17 PM, Montclair Police as well as Montclair Fire Department and Montclair EMS Units responded to 100 Chestnut Street, Montclair High School, on a report of a fire on the second floor of the school.  A student alerted school staff of the incident. All students and staff were able to promptly evacuate the school safely. The school Principal as well as a Montclair Police Officer assigned as the School Resource Officer were able locate and extinguish the fire which was confined to a second-floor boy’s bathroom near the science wing. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire began near a soap dispenser.

Minimal damaged was confined to this area. The School Resource Officer as well as two school employees were transported to Mountainside Hospital by Montclair EMS for smoke inhalation and released. All students were dismissed at normal dismissal time. The incident remains under investigation by the Montclair Police Department and Montclair Fire Department.
