A swearing-in ceremony was held yesterday evening in the Montclair Township Council Chamber to appoint Joseph C. Angelo as the Judge of the Municipal Court of Montclair. Although Judge Angelo took the oath of office July 12 before Judge John I. Gizzo of the Essex County Veterans Courthouse, yesterday's ceremony was a public swearing-in before officials, family, friends and colleagues.
Judge Angelo was also recently appointed Chief Judge of Belleville Township, NJ.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Angelo served as Chief Prosecutor for the townships of Montclair, Belleville, North Caldwell and Essex Fells. He also served as the Chief Public Defender for the Township of Belleville and was also the Assistant Township Attorney for Montclair. Judge Angelo is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Washington D.C. He is a member of the Essex County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
“I’m truly honored to be given the opportunity to continue to serve the people of Montclair,” said Judge Angelo. “I thank Mayor Jackson and the Council for the trust that they placed in me and, as I take the bench, I will do my utmost to fairly and justly serve the people of this great township.”
