ADU Ordinance Goes into Effect March 13

Montclair Township Council voted in favor of a reintroduced ordinance earlier this year that allows for “accessory dwelling units” (ADUs) in the township. The new ADU ordinance goes into effect on Monday, March 13.

Accessory dwelling units are an old concept that has gained popularity in recent years. The idea is simple: build a second, smaller dwelling which is free standing or attached to the main house on a shared property.

ADUs provide homeowners a way to make some extra income, provide housing for family members, and expand a community’s affordable housing options.

For information on Montclair’s new ADU ordinance is posted in the Planning Department section of the township website.
